OPMjobs Donated to Safe In Our World for Mental Health Month

We’re delighted that we managed to raise £845 for Safe In Our World and help bring awareness to the effects and signs of stress and mental health conditions.

How it worked

From May 1st to May 31st 2021 for every job seeker that we registered onto our database we donated £5 to Safe In Our World. By the end of the month we had registered 169 candidates, bringing the donation total to £845! This incentive was the brainchild of our Managing Director, Kim, who is Deputy Chairperson for Safe In Our World. Donated money will help raise awareness of mental health in the games industry and the impact it can have on the physical, emotional and mental well-being of a employers, employees, players, streamers, influencers, etc.

About Safe In Our World

Back in 2017, co-founders Leo Zullo, Gareth Williams and Neil Broadhead started a conversation about fund-raising for mental health charities. Like every project in the gaming industry, this grew and expanded, and in 2019 the charity Safe in Our World was born. The mission is to foster positive mental health wellbeing and deliver support not only for players, but also developers. The goal is for the industry to come together and start a conversation that can change lives. SIOW are committed to making a difference.

What Safe in Our World achieved for Mental Health Month

This Mental Health Month Safe In Our World encouraged everyone to talk. Whether to a friend, colleague, or a professional, talking is the first step to getting support. They launched their first public Discord server: Safer Together, with the purpose of providing a public platform for gamers and industry folk to connect, find players for multiplayer games, discuss games, and be a safe community for all to talk and find resources.

Money raised is being used for future initiatives and invested in the evolution of the charity. They will continue in their mission to eliminate stigma surrounding mental health within the video games industry and its communities, so that every player and employee feels safe to reach out for help.
