Sony Interactive Entertainment London

UE4 Programmer

OPM are working with a globally recognised studio that is currently looking for someone to join in the development of cutting edge Virtual Reality online experiences. The role will entail maintaining and extending the project, across all levels (physics, UI/UX, gameplay, networking, systems; both game and engine side), in both C++ and Blueprint. Aside from this, there is a tech base of other online technology that will need occasional maintenance, with opportunities for innovation in this space.

The ideal person for the job will be a generalist with a solid engineering background in C/C++ and familiarity with Unreal Engine4, ideally within the constraints of console game development. They want someone quick and eager to learn new things; proactive and pragmatic, with a keen eye for detail without losing sight of the big picture. This is a small yet diverse team, so good communication skills and an ability to listen to others’ point of view are paramount.

Skills

Competence in C and C++

Provable experience with Unreal Engine 4 / UE4

Quick learning and a proactive, can-do attitude

Quick to gain familiarity with new source code

Attention to detail and good debugging skills

Good communication skills, being able to interface with people from other disciplines

Desirable

Console games experience, preferably with PlayStation4

Low level networking experience

Understanding of low level physics, graphics, audio or other areas of game development

Enthusiasm for playing games

To summarise

They need someone who is enthusiastic and determined to get the best results for the project; someone able to work both as part of a team and autonomously, and to provide expert solutions quickly for the various challenges that will arise.
