OPM are excited to be working with one of the UK’s most prolific and secure independent game developers, with 4 UK studios now and many fantastic new opportunities on the horizon.

Founded in 2003, this successful developer has had a string of successful titles across all gaming platforms for partners that include Microsoft, SEGA, Sony and many more. They are now looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Build Engineer to join the Nottingham team, who will have opportunity make a real impact on their AAA console projects currently in development.

As a Tools Programmer you will be responsible for the day to day development of software tools to support programmers and content creators in making the game.  You will be responsible for the design, implementation and maintenance of new and existing tools.  You will gather requirements from users and identify gaps and inefficiencies in the current toolset to inform your development work.  You will be capable and responsible for estimating the time and cost of feature implementation, and then meeting those budgets.  You will be helped in this by the lead programmer on the team, who will be your line manager.


In a typical day you will be required to design, implement and debug features within the tools you are working on, potentially working across multiple games and platforms simultaneously.  You know how to use the development tools available to you, including 3rd party libraries and IDEs.  You will have excellent communication skills enabling you to accurately report progress and issues as the feature progresses, allowing you and your team to manage the progress of the project.



  • Extensive experience in a relevant role.
  • Experience from outside the games industry or outstanding demos will be considered.
  • GUI toolkit experience (e.g. WPF, wxWindows, Qt, etc..)
  • Experience using source control systems (e.g. Perforce, CVS, SVN)
  • Knowledge of game content creation pipelines and tools
  • Strong math skills, especially in trigonometry and linear algebra



  • Good time management and self-motivation skills.
  • The ability to take direction and criticism.
  • Knowledge of games systems (3D graphics, animation, camera control, lighting)
  • Experience authoring plugins for DCC tools (e.g. 3DS Max, Maya)
  • Experience working with and extending Unreal/Unity.
  • Scripting experience (python/perl/etc…)
