Technical Game Designer – AAA FPS Games – Remote/Hybrid,/Onsite Montreal, Canada

OPM’s client are looking for an experienced, talented, and passionate Technical Game Designer whose skill set combines technical excellence with a passion for making games. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring features are designed and implemented in ways that are efficient, stable, and flexible by establishing the best scripting practices, collaborating with engineering, improving workflow pipelines, creating systems, and solving tough technical design challenges.


  • Solid experience in technical design capacity within the games industry
  • Experience on a minimum of one shipped AAA console/PC title as a technical designer or systems designer from pre-production to release
  • Knowledge of Unreal Engine and in-depth Blueprint expertise
  • Great knowledge of programming or scripting languages and object-oriented approach
  • Experience building complex game objects with self-contained behaviour
  • Solid understanding of gameplay features and asset management
  • Great knowledge of the principles of game design and theory
  • Solid technical documentation ability
  • Experience prototyping game features
  • Solid analytical and formal thinking, able to break problems down in their key variables and identify the relations between them
  • Strong problem solving and trouble-shooting skills
  • Capability to process, understand and implement feedback
  • Capability to prioritize and deliver best quality work under tight schedule


  • Design and maintain asset databases for the above systems
  • Work in the editor to script the game logic following design direction
  • Collaborate with engineers to develop features for the editor and the game
  • Collaborating with programmers on how features should be implemented and define what should be data driven and what should not
  • Act as a first person of contact with all technical game design issues and be able to determine when something can be manageable in script, and when it should be handled in code by programmers’ team
  • Design detailed and easy-to-use project documentation that is easily understood by the engineering team
  • Push tool and workflow improvements improving the efficiency of other Designers. Proactively identifying workflow issues and offer solutions
  • Attending playtests and be solution-oriented to the problem encountered


  • BS (or higher) in Computer Science or similar discipline (Physics, Math, EE, etc.)
  • Previous programming experience
  • Passionate about playing and making video games
  • Familiarity with visual scripting
