Technical Audio Designer – AAA Online Games – The Netherlands – Permanent

OPM’s client, a world class AAA game developer, is currently looking for a Technical Audio Designer to join their Netherlands based Team.

You’ll act as the bridge between high-level design goals and specific solutions, participating – in collaboration with other specialists – in both the direct implementation of audio features and assets, and the translation of more complex requirements into technical specifications.

As an audio generalist with a technical grounding, this role demands the willingness to take on a broad variety of challenges, an ability to quickly switch focus between tasks, and the capacity to maintain good lines of communication, discussing complex issues at differing levels of abstraction.



  • Implement Features
    • Cooperate with other disciplines to elicit, implement, refine, and maintain audio features
    • Adhere (and contribute) to robust standards and pipelines
    • Verify in-game quality and consistency and iterate according to feedback
  • Maintain Communication
    • Decompose complex ideas into succinct, communicable technical specifications
    • Cooperate with QA to produce robust test cases and push for high standards of quality
  • Prototype Concepts
    • Take part in the generation of design idea
    • Drive the development of rapid prototypes
    • Research, play and evaluate games to maintain an up-to-date knowledge of the domain


  • Extensive sound design experience
  • Shipped (at least) one title in a Sound Design (or equivalent) role
  • Strong knowledge of implementing / integrating sound features / assets in modern game engines
  • Good understanding of loudness standards / mix processes
  • Experience working in Unity
  • Strong understanding of industry standard audio (synthesis, manipulation) tools
  • Ability to decompose design goals into succinct implementation requirements
  • Ability to operate autonomously in a dynamic environment
  • Willingness to learn new technical skills and techniques



  • Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent formal qualification) in a relevant field
  • Experience developing large-scale / open-world / sandbox games
  • Strong grasp of text-based scripting (C# or equivalent language)
  • Familiarity with audio features in a multiplayer context
  • Hands-on experience with field and studio recordings and associated equipment
  • Background in audio engineering (recording, mixing, mastering)
  • Practical experience using a variety of modern game engines and tools
  • Working knowledge of software development and collaboration tools (eg Atlassian)
  • Familiarity with asset / version management (eg Perforce)
  • Keen understanding of User Generated Content
