Project: AAA Action Adventure Game


OPM’s client, a UK based AAA Game Development Studio, is currently looking for a Senior/Lead Designer to join their team in Cambridge, to start development of one of their recently announced titles.

The successful candidate will be an experienced, talented and passionate designer with a proven record as a Lead/Principal Designer on numerous AAA titles. They will work closely with the Creative Director to ensure the overall design requirements are met on schedule and to high quality.


  • Extensive experience in a similar game design position
  • Design experience in environment layout, mechanics, narrative, cameras, puzzles and tools
  • Solid prototyping skills to represent an idea in engine
  • Studio experience with gameplay scripting
  • Good knowledge on how to enhance or improve gameplay
  • Clear understanding of what makes a positive user experience in any area of design responsibility (pacing, gameplay mechanics or sequences, in-house tool design etc)
  • Experience with Unreal Engine 4


  • Take part in creative discussions with the Creative Director and other team members
  • Produce innovative and creative game systems and level designs
  • Take ownership of designated areas of design work (for example a level or mechanic) and work with other disciplines to prototype, build, iterate and polish these areas.
  • Communicate designs through documentation with the use of written English, visual aids and other supporting material including grey boxing, illustrations, graphs, diagrams, spreadsheets, etc.
  • Maintain a high standard of creative and technical knowledge in all areas of design and assist juniors where required


  • Degree in a suitable subject such as: Games Development, Product Design, Computer Science.
  • Experience with Maya, Blender or solid understanding of 3D modelling
  • Rudimentary animation skills using 3D packages or in engine tools, e.g. UE4 Sequencer
  • Solid understanding of rudimentary programming principles
  • Experience using Visio, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Photoshop
