A London based Games Studio has a fantastic opportunity for an individual who has a passion for testing and quality assurance. The role will be perfect for a person who has a passion for games and can use a methodological and inquisitive approach to improve the quality of their games.

They are looking for individuals that will bring originality to their QA department and appreciates the important role that QA plays in the creation of games.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the overall initial design, oversight and delivery of test strategy of a project or projects with Senior QA Technician(s)
  • Responsible for daily reporting of QA progress to key project stakeholders and influence project-level decisions in order to maintain QA best practices, and highlighting and resolving QA project risks when required
  • Provide mentoring and guidance to QA team members at all levels
  • Responsible for maintaining and improving standards of testing throughout the QA team and the wider studio, including development of tools and automation, knowledge and information sharing between the teams
  • Responsible for ensuring clear and consistent communication between the QA and development team(s) in order to ensure QA teams have required information to test areas or features, and providing suggestions to the resolution of issues with project stakeholders
  • Managing bug tracking (and bug database) from discovery to resolution, highlighting key issues to development team where appropriate in order to improve quality, and suggesting improvements to bug reports to Senior QA Technicians when required to ensure consistent standards
  • Liaising with Community QA Technician(s) in order to ensure that community reported issues are logged, prioritised and addressed
  • Liaising with project stakeholders with respect to resolving issues and/or bug triages on a frequent basis
  • Testing game mechanics and features and providing clear, concise feedback to line manager, producers and/or development team
  • Engage with development team in a tactful, assertive and diplomatic manner in order to proactively find issues as early in development process as possible
  • Actively participate in daily stand-up meetings, sprint planning to relay progress or issues, where required, and encourage QA team members to participate
  • Participate in peer reviews during interview process for new staff hires
  • Being a point of of contact for QA in the absence of the Head of QA

 

Requirements:

  • Understanding of QA process and testing methodologies in order to design innovative QA approaches for a wide variety of projects
  • Ability to mentor and guide other members of the team to improve standards and an ability to lead by example
  • Ability to identify inefficiencies and gaps in testing and suggest and drive improvements (including tooling) and ensure that improvements are made in a timely fashion
  • Attention to detail with an inquisitive mindset, not afraid to ask difficult questions where required
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritise tasks based on multiple sources of information, with excellent time management skills
  • Excellent communication skills in both written and spoken English, especially in terms of test documentation and personnel management
  • Tactful approach in dealing with potentially emotive decisions
  • Excellent general interpersonal skills
  • Aptitude for gaining understanding in new technologies and processes quickly

 

 Experience:

  • Proven, Professional experience within an embedded QA team at a games development studio
  • Experience with leading both internal and external teams in terms of either development or testing
  • Experience with different software development methodologies, such as agile, SCRUM, lean, waterfall or GaaS (Games as a Service)
  • Experience with bug databases administration (such as Jira)
  • Prior experience working in multi-disciplined QA teams (such as SDETs, compliance QA etc) a definite plus
  • Prior experience in compliance testing (console and/or mobile platforms) a plus
  • Degree educated, ideally in a computer science or games development subject a plus
  • Prior experience with Unity, Jenkins, Git a plus
  • ISTQB qualified a definite plus
