Principal Character Programmer – AAA Games – Malmo Sweden

Location: Malmo, Sweden Salary: Negotiable

Job ID: # Posted: 2 years ago

OPM are excited to be working with this AAA games company. The original studios were founded in 2003 and develops games using its proprietary technology, enabling huge open worlds filled with emergent gameplay. They have recently opened their third studio in the beautiful Malmö, Sweden. The Malmö studio will focus on development of current and future IPs, relatively small and flexible projects which rest on a solid foundation of AAA production values.

They are now looking to hire a Principal Character Programmer to join a newly formed team. Their ambition has always been to create believable characters in immersive open worlds and the sandbox components typically found in their games makes it especially challenging and interesting when developing systemic animation, AI and character solutions.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in sophisticated traversal and combat actions, animation blending, character scripting, animation state machines and similar techniques.  First person action character work, AI locomotion system work and multipede character development is of particular interest.

At principal level there is also a component of studio level technical direction in the form of planning and execution of the long-term technical roadmap in the areas of Characters, Animation and AI. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to assume an instrumental role within a new studio.

Required Skills:

  • Strong C/C++ coding skills
  • Completed and shipped several full-cycle console game projects
  • Strong interest and experience with modern character animation techniques
  • Familiarity with modern AI and physics game systems
  • Solid understanding of 3D math and its application to game development
  • Experience with performance and resource optimization for consoles
  • Ability to coordinate and collaborate with other game-dev disciplines (animation, design, production, effects, etc)
  • Passion for playing, making and thinking about games
  • A solid understanding of the pros and cons that the current console architectures impose on all aspects of the rendering pipeline
  • Direct experience with PS4 or XBox One development for a shipped title
  • An understanding of all aspects of game programming, including physics, animation, AI and networking
