OPM are pleased to be working with this client who are pushing the boundaries of VR and AR development. With offices in 10 different countries.

You will be a part of the creation of a first-ever VR/AR World of Science and Technology experience; a collaborative Virtual and Augmented Reality gaming platform between industry leading scientists and universities for one of the world’s biggest industries. They are seeking a full-time Network Programmer (VR) to join their dedicated team. They need your expertise in creating fun and engaging multiplayer systems to thrill a whole new audience of scientists and believe that VR and AR are the future of scientific research and education and would like you to be a part of the future.

This companies laboratory, as well as the analytical and processing divisions, currently have around 900 employees, and continue to offer a wide range of innovative equipment for numerous applications in research and development, as they have for over 100 years. Worldwide market leaders trust in their proven technology.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Implement solutions to synchronize gameplay
  • Analyze and optimize bandwidth usage and latency effects
  • Develop highly scalable, secure and available connectivity services
  • Create clear documentation to transfer knowledge and simplify maintenance
  • Cooperate closely with gameplay programmers to ensure multiplayer compatibility
  • Recognise opportunities to improve the application or general workflows, and seek to make these changes

 

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • Proven Professional C/C++ experience
  • Professional experience in client-server programming related to video games
  • Experience in IP network protocols (TCP and UDP)
  • Experience in database development (MySQL, Oracle, …)
  • Experience with replication, arbitration, bandwidth, load balancing and multiplayer concepts
  • Experience with 3D game engines
  • Self-sufficiency
  • BS (or higher) in Computer Science or a similar discipline (i.e. Physics, Math, EE, etc.)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English

 

 Desirable Qualifications and Skills:

  • Unreal Engine experience
  • Experience in implementing VoIP
  • Experience working on a MMO
  • Shipped console/PC title experience
  • VR and/or AR experience as a developer or user
  • Familiar with: JSON, XML, JavaScript, and/or Python
