Location: Sheffield Salary: Negotiable

Job ID: # Posted: 4 years ago

Sumo Digital Ltd

My client one of the UK’s most creative and stable game developers. Having been developing games since the early 2000s they have assembled a talented team of over 230 staff and are looking to grow even more with opening another UK-based studio. They have developed a series of successful titles across all gaming platforms for partners with more recent titles being launched on the Xbox One and PS4. 2017 is guaranteed to be their most eventful year!

RESPONSIBILITIES

My client is looking for a talented Narrative Game Designer to join the team on an exciting AAA console project in development at their studio. This is very much a hands-on/implementation role, generating the hooks and stubs for the scriptwriter to complete and ensuring his line are accurate to the gameplay and delivered at the right moment. This is not a writing role, although in the white heat of production you may end up contributing some dialogue to the project! In this role, you will:

  • Work with the Lead World Designer and various level designers as part of a team developing content in an open world environment.
  • Work with the Creative Leads to ensure that the overall game narrative is fully realised within the game world, and that the balance between open world gameplay and progressive narrative drive is a seamless player experience.
  • Craft interactive narrative elements within real time gameplay that tie together moment-to-moment action with a background story arc and in-depth characterisation.
  • Work directly with the writer to provide game hooks and context for all in-game narrative and dialogue.
  • Be directly responsible for ensuring that all written narrative and dialogue is balanced and delivered at the right moment, ensuring a consistent level of narrative impact and gameplay guidance whenever required.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience developing open-world quests, characters, ambient activities, economies, immersive behaviours and game missions in a Lead or Senior capacity on a AAA console title.
  • Working knowledge of UE4 and an understanding of Blueprint.
  • A keen eye and ear for structured narrative, specifically how it relates to freeform gameplay.
  • Experience of developing high level narrative and characters as part of a writing team – and presenting these ideas to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience of VO casting, VO recording and talent direction.
  • A general passion, knowledge and appreciation of writing (films, TV, books, games etc.).

BENEFITS

  • A competitive salary with generous holidays, flexitime and excellent employee benefits.
  • An annual Day Out, epic Christmas parties and money on your birthday.
  • On-site free gym and free fruit for everyone!
  • Their new, regular studio Game Jams are a highlight – staff spend a full day developing and pitching their own game ideas for possible development by the studio.
  • A relaxed and friendly environment built upon the basis of every team member has the opportunity to excel and have a realisable input into the games they create.
  • Home to very nice people that partake in shared interest groups, lunchtime clubs, charity fundraising events and lots of socialising.

Don’t miss out on an amazing opportunity! Please send your cv and portfolio to officemanager@opmjobs.com today!
