Lead Technical Animator – UK Remote, North West UK – Permanent – AAA Games

This UK developer is rapidly growing with many high-end games in development across multiple genres including Narrative Adventure and Action Shooter titles. They are a team of professional, friendly developers who form a world class studio staffed with excited, passionate creators who love to collaborate across varied, inspiring, and challenging games.

As a Lead Technical Animator, you will work closely with other animators and tech animators to iterate, evolve, and polish animations to the highest quality possible, on a dark, story-driven next generation ‘Narrative Adventure’ with genre defining goals.


  • Experience as a Lead Technical Animator on at least one project in Games or similar
  • Examples of producing high quality rigged and skinned characters
  • Great experience working with motion capture data from 3rd party providers
  • Expert knowledge of animation and the processes involved in creating animations
  • In-depth knowledge of Maya and Motion Builder
  • Experience with implementing animation and animation logic in a game engine


  • Assist the Animation team with planning, knowledge sharing and general technical support
  • Produce tools/scripts to aid animators with regards to exporting to game
  • Assist in the process of rigging and skinning of environment assets
  • Assist in the creation of both hand animated and procedurally animated environment assets
  • Support the physics set up and game logic integration of environment assets
  • Work closely with code and animation team to make sure they are working as efficiently and as stress free as possible.
  • Assist the other Leads and wider team to create and maintain documentation standards and practices for in-game technical animation
  • Recognising shortfalls in technical animation skills and assisting with the recruitment process
  • Collaborate with Dev Managers to ensure a realistic project scope
  • Bring your experience of best working practices to the team


  • Python experience
  • Experience with Houdini destruction/simulation pipelines
  • Experience with Unreal VFX (Niagara)
  • Familiarity with procedural animation of natural phenomena (wind etc)
  • Familiarity with simulation-based animation of natural phenomena (foliage etc)
  • Console development experience
