Junior Technical Animator – East Anglia (UK) – Permanent – AAA Games

My client is a UK development powerhouse that keeps high production values close to its heart. To maintain this quality, they are now in a position to hire a Junior Technical Artist.



You will report to the Principal Technical Artist and will assist them and other senior members of the team with technical character setup and pipeline/workflow development including, but not limited to; control rigs, deformation systems, facial animation systems, runtime and offline physics/simulation, animation and motion capture pipelines as well as following tasks/instructions and taking responsibility for day to day work. You will have experience in Python and PyMel and be able to use this skill to improve quality and efficiency.



  • Rigging Demo Reel
  • Demonstrable understanding of character rigging
  • Experience with building character rigs in Maya
  • A Good eye for anatomical detail
  • An understanding of the dependencies between character modelling, animation and rigging.
  • Ability to write simple Python/Pymel scripts to improve character rigging workflow.
  • Excellent problem solving skills.
  • Ability to clearly explain problems, thought processes and technical solutions
  • The ability to work under own initiative, keeping leads informed of progress
  • Strong time management and organisation skills



  • Build character rigs with high quality deformation and efficient control schemes.
  • Implement and support character asset in-engine.
  • Work closely with other departments to collaboratively solve problems.
  • Take an active part in team discussions, offering suggestions for improving the quality of the game or ways to improve studio workflows.
  • Ask pertinent questions and use knowledge/experience of more senior team members to ensure own work is carried out appropriately and own development is maintained.
  • Maintain flexible working practices, showing an ability and willingness to rapidly adapt to evolving art styles and tools.
  • Able to provide accurate time estimates for task completion.
  • Highly motivated in their own personal development, effectively utilising this for the benefit of themselves and the wider studio.



  • Passion for games
  • Experience in Unreal Engine 4
  • Experience with procedural animation systems, for example cloth simulation.
