OPM are excited to be working with one of the UK’s most prolific independent game developers, with multiple UK studios and many fantastic new opportunities on the horizon. This successful developer has had a string of successful titles across all gaming platforms for partners that include Microsoft, SEGA, Sony and many more. They are now looking for an enthusiastic and talented Build Engineer to join their team in Sheffield.

As a Build Engineer you will be responsible for maintaining the stability of the project builds across all platforms. You will be responsible for the design and implementation of systems to automate building and testing a title, and for delivering regular builds to QA teams and customers. You will be capable of identifying the cause of any build problems, and for either resolving those problems yourself or communicating with other staff members to help resolve them. You will be helped in this and report to the lead programmer on the team who will be your line manager.

In a typical day you will be required to maintain systems for existing projects, while developing strategies for improving and automating the build and test processes for existing and future projects. You know how to use the tools required, including systems and scripting languages for automating building and testing. You may also have the skills to develop and refine tests to improve the quality of the testing process. You will have excellent communication skills enabling you to accurately communicate issues and report on the status of the build systems and builds themselves.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Proven and respected build engineer with a positive, can-do attitude and a history of success on significant projects;
  • Excellent cross-discipline communicator;
  • Broad and deep contemporary knowledge of build and test pipelines for PC and console platforms;
  • Excellent knowledge of C++, C#, PowerShell and other relevant programming and scripting languages;
  • Practical experience of deploying CI pipelines such as Jenkins and TeamCity and build distribution tools;
  • In-depth knowledge of revision control systems with emphasis on Perforce;
  • Goal orientated, proactive and methodical problem-solver;
  • Proficient and pragmatic in debugging and profiling/optimisation;
  • Quality-minded, with great attention to detail;
  • Passionate about games and game technology;

DESIRED SKILLS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related subject;
  • Knowledge of commercial game engines and middleware;
  • Experience of localisation/culturalization pipelines and considerations;
