Location: Derby, United Kingdom Salary: Negotiable

Job ID: #23239 Posted: 2 years ago

Our client is looking to strengthen its team to support current and future multiplayer titles whilst

maintaining a high-quality bar. One of the ways they’re ensuring this is by forming a dedicated

online team to build solutions to common problems met by all projects and centralise

knowledge for everything game backend related.

The online team would have two main areas of focus. Game server management (deployment,

scaling and monitoring) and online game services (account management, leader boards, IAP

etc), with the latter being a combination of third-party products and custom solutions.

Currently they’re looking for two engineers to form the initial members of the team. You would be

supported by existing developers who worked on the backend for Battalion.

The team are a small, tightly knit group of developers who strive to build impressive

multiplayer games. Their programmers tend to be multi-disciplinary developers who push the

boundaries to deliver that goal.

  • Building server-side web apps and services to support a growing portfolio of games.
  • Building APIs that are resilient and testable.
  • Working with third party services to build out our in-house game server management tools.
  • Working with lead programmers across several projects to identify common needs.
  • Solve problems encountered along the way.
  • Write extensible, stable, efficient code.
  • Improve as an individual.
  • Help others.

Required Skills

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or other relevant experience.
  • Extensive industry experience.
  • Experience with at least one of ‘the big three’ cloud providers. Currently they use AWS and Google Cloud.
  • Have a strong grasp of backend software/microservice design, programming and debugging.
  • Confident in commonly used languages such as JavaScript/Nodejs, Go and Python
  • Confident in various types of databases and database management
  • Experience with Docker
  • Experience with Linux/Unix and scripting languages
  • A strong desire to overcome difficult hurdles
  • A strong desire to learn new skills.
  • A methodical mind and the ability to think outside the box.
  • A strong work ethic with a willingness to learn and constantly improve
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Strong communicator with the ability to articulate systems and ideas effectively

Preferred Skills

  • Previously worked in a game’s studio
  • Previously worked on game services and understand the common needs and methodologies of such a project.
