Our client is at the cutting edge of technology and creativity, delivering co-development video game services to global triple-A clients. Their successful studio is continuing to grow and are now looking for a VFX Artist to join the expanding Art Team. The studio works on multiple exciting projects at any one time offering plenty of variety and involvement.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Follow a pre-defined art direction or concept to produce visual effects in varying art styles
  • Create high quality visual effects, from prototype through to implementation in game, including bug fixing and polishing, and assisting with concepting new ideas and exploring new techniques
  • Create clean and efficient systems, with an awareness of what is required for optimal performance, ensuring work hits memory and frame rate guides and complies to project guidelines in terms of naming conventions, texture layering structures, folders etc.
  • With a professional and organised approach, adhere to schedules and promptly feedback concerns, updating Jira and communicating progress.
  • Respond to art direction effectively and assist in both providing and implementing feedback
  • Keep up to date with industry advancements and technologies and share knowledge with the VFX art team.
  • Add to the library of tutorials, documents and technical guides to improve efficiency in the VFX art processes and be proactive in finding solutions to technical issues.
  • Mentor junior VFX Artists and help promote a culture of collaborative innovation.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Excellent artistic ability exhibited through a portfolio/showreel, demonstrating a range of 2D and 3D real time game VFX.
  • An understanding of timing, weight, physical behaviour and motion physics.
  • An understanding of current visual effects trends and technologies and a passion for innovation.
  • Proficient in Maya/Max, Photoshop, Substance and After Effects
  • Experience in bespoke VFX software such as Houdini, UE4’s Cascade or Niagra, Unity’s Shuriken, PopcornFX, FumeFX or Ember Gen
  • Experience of various tools and game engines currently used in game development.
  • Good communication and organisation skills and happy working as part of a multidisciplinary art team

OPM’s client is a BAFTA-winning, independent game developer, known for delivering high-end cinematic games and is carving a unique and exciting path in the gaming industry. They are currently seeking a Senior Game Programmer to join their team.

You’ll be engineering brand new features, from basic prototypes through to robust, reusable systems that underpin all of their upcoming games. You’ll also be crafting realistic and expressive characters, innovative game mechanics and smooth, responsive control systems for their stable of AAA projects.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Have expert C++ knowledge and professional experience, contributed to shipped games on PC, console or mobile.
  • Leadership – you are comfortable taking responsibility for understanding the technical requirements for the game and co-ordinating the programming effort in order to meet them.
  • Great Communicator – you can talk about your work. You’ll be as comfortable specifying a task with designers and collaborating on a shared codebase with engineers as you are taking feedback from directors and producers.
  • Practical – sometimes a rapid prototype is needed to quickly test an idea. Other times a mission-critical system needs detailed planning and consultation.  You have an instinct for what level of engineering is needed, and you can work efficiently at any level.
  • Passion for Games – you’ve probably been playing games forever. You understand an engaging player experience and are confident reproducing it in code. 

DESIRED SKILLS:

  • Wide Range of Experience. Knowledge of multiple game systems and their potential advantages and pitfalls.  Experience with at least one game engine and associated tools.
  • Experience with Virtual or Augmented Reality. How to work with motion controllers and headsets as well as an awareness of how VR changes traditional game mechanics and UI principles.  Ideas for maximising the benefits of VR, without being hampered by the constraints.
  • Knowledge of animation systems. Using blend trees, state machines and procedural systems to create believable human performances in software.
  • Understanding of network coding for multiplayer games. Managing the state of each game object and providing a smooth, glitch-free experience to all clients.

Project: AAA Games


The UI Artist is a key part of our clients growing UI Team. Having an excellent eye for detail, they are looking for someone who can create world class User Interface graphics that support and enhance the gameplay experience. They work with very high-profile clients on amazing game titles and the quality of their UI art work is critical to satisfying and retaining their loyalty.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
 

  • Create high quality 2D user interface graphical artwork, from wireframe prototypes and concepts, through to implementation in game, including bug fixing and polishing.
  • Assist with concepting new ideas, exploring new techniques and refining the UI to enhance the player experience.
  • Following specified art direction and working in collaboration with other departments, create beautiful icons, menus, buttons and front-end HUD graphics, and assist in both providing and implementing feedback.
  • Work with the Art Director to ensure consistency between initial vision and final assets.
  • Ensure work meets all technical constraints, have an awareness of memory usage, optimisation and the impact of artwork on frame rate.
  • Adhere to guidelines regarding naming conventions, texture layering structures, folders etc.
  • With a professional and organised approach, you stick to schedules, promptly feedback any concerns, update Jira and communicate progress.
  • Keep up to date with industry advancements and technologies and share knowledge with the art team.
  • Add to library of tutorials, documents and technical guides to improve efficiency in the art pipeline and be proactive in finding solutions to technical issues.
  • Mentor Junior UI Artists and help promote a culture of collaborative innovation.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Excellent graphical artistic ability, with a clear understanding of colour theory, proportion, layout, composition and use of negative space.
  • A passion for graphic design, iconography, typography and an appreciation of the importance of the UI flow and functionality.
  • Very good working knowledge and proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, especially Photoshop and Illustrator/XD or similar for vector graphic creation.
  • Good understanding of various other tools used in game development and experienced in using current game editors such as Unreal or Unity.
  • Good communication and organisation skills and confident working as part of a multidisciplinary art team.
  • Practical and methodical approach to both technical and creative problem-solving.
  • Demonstrate dependability and commitment to projects and tasks, and a hunger to learn and improve as a UI Artist.
  • Flexible and calm approach with the ability to adapt with change.
  • Ability to deliver quality work within fixed time constraints.
  • Passion for staying up to date with latest technology and embracing new game art techniques and emerging UI/UX trends.

DESIRED:
 

  • Experience of working within game development.
  • At least 1 published title.
  • Experience in Figma / Adobe XD or similar prototyping tool and After Effects.

The ideal candidate will lead collaboration with your colleagues in game design and gameplay engineering to provide support through the architecture, design, implementation, and optimization of the layer that connects their players, and drives the games.
