OPMs client is looking for a Principal Designer with a specialty in 3C’s to join the early development of a new, AAA, Unreal 5 multiplayer action game.

The successful candidate will take ownership of our clients character, camera and controls systems, working directly with the Lead Designer, Animators, and Directors.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to own and deliver high-quality work, with no guidance from others
  • Obsessive about delivering the very best player experience
  • Exceptional creativity and design skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively both to Directors and to team members in all disciplines
  • In depth knowledge of character, camera and controls systems (ideally in multiplayer titles)
  • Knowledge of accessibility practices and systems regarding gameplay and controls

  • Pro-active communication
  • Good knowledge of at least 1 industry-standard engine, ideally Unreal 5
  • Working knowledge of Agile development

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Be an additive part of all major second to second gameplay design decisions on a AAA game
  • Imagining, owning and documenting major features around our 3Cs systems
  • Ensure we have a deep and responsive control and camera system that layers instant recognition to in depth mastery
  • Becoming our controls and character accessibility champion
  • Taking these features from ideation, through documentation, prototype, to full production
  • ‘Feature Owner’ of cross-discipline teams to deliver exceptional quality
  • Creating these features and interactions in Unreal 5, using Blueprints

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Implements the placement of game entities e.g.: characters, enemies cover, pickups etc and balances the level’s difficultly

  • At least 2 full development cycles of experience on a major PC/Console title in a level design role on an action-adventure title

They are seeking a talented Senior Game Designer who will work closely with the Creative Director and will be responsible for the overall game design of an entire product or, for bigger projects, a large area of that product, pushing end to end implementation across the team.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Passionate about creating and playing games.
  • Deep knowledge of all aspects of design such as: feedback, controls, balance, narrative, game-feel, retention, usability, on-boarding, social mechanics, and player motivation.
  • Strong experience in games, as a Senior Designer having at least one shipped AAA current gen console or PC titles that included a multiplayer component, from concept to final product.
  • Ability to work independently without supervision and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Experience of people-management, mentoring, line-management.

  • Regularly present the areas of the game you are responsible for to the studio. Where necessary you will speak to the media and prepare key product messaging for the media.
  • Implementing feature optimisations and tuning plans; you will own the tuning for accountable features or levels.
  • Using feedback from focus group sessions, integrating relevant feedback into the product design.
  • Verify task estimates provided by junior staff and in turn work with your Lead to give your own accurate estimates for work as well as logging work in management software.
  • Provide input to Production and Management on project schedules throughout development to prioritise tasks for the developers responsible for their assigned feature-set, in alignment with the product vision.
  • Communicate the impact of changes to the game-design to the developers on your team.

DESIRABLE SKILLS:

  • Professional experience with Unreal Blueprints.
  • Traditional art skills.
  • Experience with scripting or programming languages.
  • Undergraduate degree in Video Game Design, Computer Science, Marketing, Entertainment, or a relevant technical training.

OPM’s client are a BAFTA-winning, independent game developer with a reputation for innovation in both storytelling and VR. They have released a number of successful AAA games.

The successful candidate will have an excellent ear for well-crafted cinematic hyperrealism, intuitive mentoring abilities and a strong desire to create incredible, innovative audio experiences.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Previous experience leading and supporting a team.
  • Wide experience of implementing sound into games using various game development tools, pipelines, and technology.
  • Previous experience in game or film sound design, ideally in AAA.
  •  High proficiency with Wwise.
  • Advanced knowledge of DAWs, sample editors and plugins.
  • Solid recording skills for SFX and Foley in studio and external environments.
  • Previously lead, supported and mentored multiple teams during a full game cycle.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Concept, create and integrate narrative-enhancing, immersive sound design
  • Work closely with the Audio Director and Game Director to help define and realise the project audio direction.
  • Mentor mid and junior audio designers.
  • Own, and deliver large areas of the project’s audio experience with little direction.
  • Demonstrate your experience in all phases of audio design and production.

DESIRED

  • Experience in Unreal Engine
  • A good understand of music theory and music editing.
  • Understanding of simple coding techniques.
