EU and UK Workers Rights Post-Brexit
We’re speaking to a lot of people who are uncertain about their rights post-Brexit. Below is a quick rundown of the current state-of-play, so you know where you stand and can be sure of what you need to do.
EU citizens in the UK:
The UK government has reached an agreement with the EU that will protect the rights of EU citizens and their family members living in the UK. It has also reached an agreement with Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein, and a separate agreement with Switzerland.
These agreements mean that most citizens from the EU, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Switzerland will need to apply to stay in the UK. You can then continue living your life here as you do now.
You will need to apply to the settlement scheme, and can start doing so here – https://www.gov.uk/staying-uk-eu-citizen
UK citizens in the EU:
The Withdrawal Agreement secures rights and allows people to stay in the EU country where they live after 31 January 2020. You will continue to have broadly the same entitlements to work, study and access public services and benefits as before the UK left the EU.
You may need to apply for a residence status to confirm that you were already resident in the EU country you live in before 31 December 2020. You will have until at least 30 June 2021 to do this.
